small “c” conservatives are worried that Obama will tack the nation too far left. Well maybe your 8 years of support for Bush’s incompetence has moved us too far right. Maybe someone needs to govern from the center. Maybe the cool ass dude that just ran the best campaign in 50 years will do as he’s done so far, which is to say, get shit done. This is a great morning to be an American. Get with the program here and come on in for the big win.

If he does govern from the center, then awesome. I’m hoping that part of his governing from the center will result in at least some reduction in the size of government, and curtailing of spending. We’ll see if that happens. I know you think I’m some wing-nut far right Randian libertarian, but all I’ve ever really wanted is less government, more in line with the constitution. I don’t think that’s a lot to ask for.

I really can’t help my inherent distrust of government, Right and Left.

Advice to President-elect Obama

Advice to President-elect Obama: Congratulations, Barack Obama! You’re the next President of the United States. Sadly, the government’s so broke that even new curtains for the Oval Office are beyond the bounds of fiscal responsibility. Thanks to the war, the Wall Street bailout, the lousy economy, and the drop in tax revenue, your big campaign plans just got a lot smaller.

The way I feel summed up by dorks on a message board.

“Sean wrote:
My only hope is he doesn’t lose his shit like the Republicans did when they had absolute control… the Dems are in a position to make some stuff happen and if they swing it too far left they’re going to just make it a bigger mess.

My ultimate hope is Obama takes it to the middle and actually does some good. My fear is he wont. The temptation to abuse the power is too great ultimately. In the end, I assume that if the Dems fuck it up we’ll see a landslide the other way in 8 years. I’m pretty sure we’ll have long-legged mack daddy for 8.

This is what I’m hoping for too. By all accounts, the guy is a pragmatist, first and foremost, and is more interested in what actually works, as opposed to following some ideological cause. I think (hope) he’s smart enough to realize what will and won’t fly with the broad middle of the political spectrum - even if the political center is a little more left/liberal than it was 10 or 20 years ago.

Or he could go berzerk and push a far-left agenda and fall flat on his face. In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation’s broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind. The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it. Said scholar and activist Mark L. Denton, “It just goes to show you that, in this country, a black man still can’t catch a break.””

Can't wait...

I can’t wait for today to be over, so we know how we’re getting fucked.
